Our plan was to go to Sirince, just a few miles from Ephesus, and let Oya, who's seen it several times, stay in the hotel and sleep off her cold while we toured Ephesus. However, when we arrived at 2:30 in Sirince, it was nearly 100 degrees and the thought of walking around Ephesus, in full sun with white marble under our feet and all around us reflecting the heat just didn't appeal. We agreed to just relax in Sirince that afternoon and evening and visit Ephesus earlier in the day on Tuesday. We had great fun in their local market and made a few purchases of Turkish ceramics that we had determined we wanted even before we left home for Turkey.
Late that evening our host took us to the second home of his B&B where we sipped wine and chatted under grapevines laden with fruit. This was also where breakfast was served to us the next day. It had great views of the city, which was originally Greek.
We rested well in his 150 year old Greek home, now decorated in traditional Turkish style.
Tomorrow: Ephesus then drive to the Mediterranean city of Bodrum where we'll stay and relax for several days!!
